The FBI’s Buffalo Division Announces it Safe Street’s Task Force’s Participation
At The Belle Center’s Summer Camp Kickoff Week
Today, Richard M. Frankel, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Michael Rivera, Interim Executive Director/Board Chair of The Belle Center, announce FBI Buffalo’s participation at The Belle Center’s Summer Camp Kickoff Week. The Belle Center, located at 104 Maryland Street, Buffalo, New York, 14201, is a multi-purpose community center on the Lower West Side of Buffalo, New York, that provides comprehensive programs and services to citizens in Western New York.
Members of the media are invited to visit The Belle Center today, Friday, June 28, 2013, between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m., where members of the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force, which combats gang activity in Western New York, will provide an FBI fitness activity and obstacle course for at-risk youth who are participating in the center’s summer program. This is also an opportunity to raise awareness and educate summer campers on gang awareness.
The Belle Center has worked closely with the FBI in recent years to help to deter violent crime, gangs, and drugs on the Lower West Side and has advanced cooperation between law enforcement and the Hispanic community in Buffalo. Earlier this year, FBI Director Robert Mueller awarded Nestor Hernandez, former Executive Director of The Belle Center and an FBI Citizens Academy Graduate, with its Director’s Community Leadership Award (DCLA). The DCLA is presented to recipients who have made extraordinary contributions to their communities.
