College

 The Portal Program works in conjunction with, but is not limited to Buffalo AmeriCorps to ensure that every member has a definitive plan upon completion of their term. All students, with staff guidance devise a unique ISS (Individual Service Strategy) to assess strengths and weaknesses to allow further guidance into a suitable career path.
Many of the students enrolled are studying to complete an educational or trade component such as-GED, H.S. Diploma, College Degree(s), Trade Program etc. We offer the opportunity for the exposure to a variety of services and career paths that focus on but are not limited to:

  • Trainings - Work Readiness Credential, Life Skills, Human Sexuality/Aids Awareness/STD’s, NYS Drivers Training, F.D.I.C. Financial literacy, Advanced First Aid/C.P.R./ADE, Mock Interview Sessions, Resume Writing and Team Building
  • Career Building - Military Career Day, Vocational Trade Show, Employer Mentoring
  • 24 Annually Planned Collegiate Visits - University at Buffalo, Fredonia, Geneseo, Buffalo State College, Canisius, R.I.T., Syracuse University etc.
  • Vocational & Skill Trades - Carpentry, Electrical, Masonry, Plaster/Drywall/Painting, Operating Engineers, Plumbing and Roofing
  • In addition, students receive added incentives through paid trainings, a professional clothing allowance, NYS-DMV: permit test, 5 hour course, driver education and road test, college application fees up to $75 and NFTA bus tokens.
Operation Information:
Monday - Friday for enrolled youth and young adults ages 17 to 24. Open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. *Services are available on certain holidays.
